About Ngomano :
This Kenya comes from the Ngomano Farmers Cooperative Society, located in Machakos County, one of central Kenya's largest regions, stretching south of Nairobi along the borders of some of the country's oldest coffee-producing areas. Though Machakos is lesser known than the highly competitive central counties of Kiambu, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri, it shares similar latitudes and elevations, making it fully capable of producing exceptional quality coffee. The Ngomano Farmers Cooperative Society belongs to the Machakos Cooperative Union, an umbrella organization representing 28 societies in the county. This union provides its members with valuable services including dry milling, farmer training, marketing, and subsidized farm inputs like fertilizer and fungicides, resources that many co-ops elsewhere in Kenya rely on third-party providers to access.
This lot is a fly crop coffee, meaning it comes from Kenya's secondary harvest, which follows a smaller rainy season and is typically less sought after by green buyers. However, Ngomano's fly crop proves that smaller doesn't mean lesser. The coffee is a blend of four cultivars, SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian, each selected for a combination of cup quality, disease resistance, and adaptability to smallholder farming conditions. True to Kenya's reputation for meticulous processing, this lot was fully washed using fresh water according to long-standing tradition, then carefully sorted by screen size and bulk conditioned at high elevation, resulting in an extraordinarily dense, well-prepared green coffee that roasters will find both consistent and rewarding to work with.
